Pastor Caroline Boehnke-Becker - Teaching Pastor: Adult Ministries
Pastor Caroline Boehnke-Becker Caroline Boehnke-Becker has been a member at Hope since 1993, joining as a charter member when the congregation was worshiping 25 people in an office building. "I wanted to join a small church, but after the first service, I wondered if it was too small. God has really worked on growing my perception of church size!" Caroline quickly became involved at Hope, serving on the church council for two years as vice-president and two years as president, as well as serving on the Vision Team, building teams, singing in the choir, teaching adult classes, and volunteering at Vacation Bible School. Caroline grew up on a farm in north central Iowa and graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1979. She has a BA in biology, graduating with honors from Wartburg College in 1983, and was awarded her MD from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1987. Caroline completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Indiana University College of Medicine in 1991. She practiced medicine both in Indianapolis and Des Moines until leaving private practice seven years later to stay home with her children. The return to medicine after her three-year sabbatical at home evaporated when Caroline received a call into ministry. This career change demanded a huge leap of faith, but "as long as God opens the doors for me, I'm committed to walking through them." Caroline leads the Adult Ministry Team and is passionate about growing mature, committed disciples who live out their faith in their daily lives. Caroline and husband Tom live in West Des Moines and have three daughters: Samantha, Allie, and Erica. She enjoys reading, gardening and cooking.
