MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS
Hope provides an opportunity to serve the homeless on the 4th of every month
by donating, preparing and/or serving food at Central Iowa Shelter located at 205 15th St in Des Moines.

We create a menu (usually one warm dish, a side dish, fruit, bread and dessert).
We also need milk, juice, cereal, coffee, sugar, peanut butter, non-perishables, etc. each month.
Signups for the monthly meal will now be offered online in a calendar format.
There will no longer be a signup sheet at the Mission Center each month.
Click here to access the online signup and click on the 4th of the month you would like to donate items.
Some helpful hints about the signup process:
When you view the requested items, it lists the item such as "Main Dish" and under each item is says "Volunteers Needed" and then a number.
The "Volunteers Needed" is the quantity requested. Next to the number requested is "ADD" and you simply click on "ADD" to sign-up for whatever item you want to donate.
Once you get to that screen, enter your name (no group name necessary), your email and phone number and in the "Number of Volunteers" box, you enter the amount you want to donate.
(FYI - most people who donate casseroles usually donate two since it's pretty easy to just double everything you're making and put it in two pans! That said, please don't feel obligated to make two.) Then click submit.
When you receive a confirmation email, it will simply say you have signed up for "2" volunteers on November 4, 2010 at 5:15. Not very specific as it won't say the items you signed up to donate, but it at least reminds you of the quantity!
PLEASE NOTE: Anyone who wants to sign up to SERVE the meal needs to email or call Jenny Lashier to do so. There is not a place to sign up to SERVE online.

Meal Delivery Details:
1) Please deliver donation items to Hope by 5:15 pm on the 4th.
2) Follow signs to take donations to area below the Chapel (via the stairs or elevator next to the Chapel).
3) Once downstairs, you'll see a hallway with rehearsal rooms on either side. Please leave shelter items on the counter or in the refrigerator marked "Central Iowa Shelter."
4) Please mark all items clearly as "Central Iowa Shelter Meal."
