Cookie Ministry/Homeless Street Outreach Winter Clothing Drive: Donate items that will be distributed to Des Moines' homeless population. Items needed include: gently used men's coats, adult men's insulated coveralls, adult men's jeans, tennis shoes (sizes 9-13) and waterproof work boots (sizes 9-13). Items may be dropped off outside the gym kitchen on the lower level (please mark the donations "Cookie Ministry" when dropping off).

Opportunity to volunteer locally: Transition Servicesis a pilot volunteer program with Lutheran Services in Iowa. The program is designed to help newly arrived refugee families in Des Moines. Volunteers take individuals and families to follow-up medical and immunization appointments, help them acquire state ID cards and assist them in setting up bank accounts. Volunteers thus play an integral role in helping refugee families become self-sufficient while adjusting to life in the United States. This volunteer position carries a two-month commitment of a few hours a week and training is provided.
