“Help for Haiti” Will Send Thousands of Meals to Earthquake Victims Meals from the Heartland and Lutheran Church of Hope are asking central Iowa to partner with them to provide thousands of meals to people affected by Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti.
You can help by:
1. Pray
Pray for the safety of people now living on the streets.
Pray for the coordination and efficiency in the immediate recovery efforts.
Pray that God would be revealing Himself to the people of Haiti even in the midst of this tragedy.
Funds raised in will pay for the purchase of ingredients and supplies volunteers will use to create pre-packaged, nutritionally balanced meals for Haitians. More than a million meals have been distributed in Haiti through the Meals from the Heartland program in the last year. Due to the recent catastrophe, the organization is planning to send an additional 280,000 meals to the region immediately. Funds raised this month will be used to package additional meals for shipment to Haiti in February. For example, a gift of $50 will provide 332 meals or feed approvimately sixteen (16) children for a month!
Lutheran Church of Hope will also provide the space for volunteers to package meals, which is done in an assembly line fashion with teams of 8-10 working in one-hour shifts. Packaging will begin Monday March 1-6. To register to package meals - click here
Event Hosts are needed for the “Help for Haiti” food packaging. Hosts help coordinate and organize other volunteers during the event. Responsibilities include checking in meal packaging volunteers, guiding packaging volunteers through the training area, overlooking the meal packaging process and more. Training is provided.
