What is Mission Juarez?
An opportunity to serve God by helping the "poorest of the poor" in a reclaimed dump in Juarez, Mexico. This mission is dedicated to bringing God's hope and light to families living in conditions unseen in our part of the world.
Trip dates
February 9 - 16, 2008 (Adult)
February 16 - 23, 2008 (Adult)
June 7 - 14, 2008 (Father/Son)
Who can go?
Anyone with a heart for Jesus and 18 years of age or older. No construction experience is necessary. For the June Father/Son trip, participants must be at least 14 years old at the time of the trip.
What is the trip like?
For the adult trips, missionaries (18 per week) will fly or drive to El Paso, Texas (these travel arrangements are to be made individually). Then we cross the border into Juarez, Mexico by rented van. For the June Father/Son trip, everyone will be driving together in vans from Des Moines to El Paso.
Missionaries build one house per week for a family currently living in a cardboard/ tin house in a reclaimed dump. Teams also complete projects requested by our partners at the Community Center of the Holy Spirit and Centro Santa Catalina such as building repairs, painting, building playground equipment.
Missionaries also have the opportunity to fellowship with Mexican women who have a sewing co-op at the Centro Santa Catalina as well as the children who attend school there.

Where do we stay?
Missionaries stay at the Community Center of the Holy Spirit, a Christ-centered organization dedicated to serving the poor. The CCHS compound houses a medical, dental and eye clinic, a daycare center, a community dining hall, a school and The Lord's Store which sells food and basic necessities. The Center provides dormitory-style sleeping arrangements for the missionaries.
Is it safe?
Yes. All food and water is purchased in El Paso and prepared under sanitary conditions by team members. Sleeping is “dorm style” in a secure building. Safety precautions are similar to a large, foreign metropolitan city.
What is the cost of the trip?
The estimated cost of the trip is $300 per person (per week), which includes:
- Lodging in Juarez: $60
- Lodging in El Paso: $80
- Food in Juarez: $50
- Transportation in El Paso and Juarez: $70
- T-shirt: $20
- Required Missionary Insurance: $20
Additional costs can include:
- Additional meals while in El Paso and Juarez: Est. $100
- Transportation to El Paso: If flying, estimated airfare is $300
