Care Team Volunteers

Care Ministry Volunteers

If you are interested in nurturing and supporting those in difficulties or crises, you may want to consider volunteering with Care Ministry.

Carecore/Care Ministers
The Carecore consists of trained care ministers who provide support and spiritual guidance to people who are in need. After completing twenty-five hours of training, care ministers are commissioned for service.

Care ministers are paired with care receivers on a one-to-one basis, matching men with men and women with women. Receivers may be experiencing a variety of challenges such as; loss of job, grief, loneliness, depression, health concerns or other stresses. All information is kept confidential and may be short or long-term.

An expanding part of the Carecore ministry is monthly worship services at assisted living facilities in the metro area. The services which include the offering of communion are held at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant, Legacy Pointe in Waukee and Gardens at Luther Park.

Care ministers meet once a month for mutual support and encouragement. Continuing education opportunities and fellowship gatherings are offered throughout the year. An annual retreat provides growth, renewal and of course fun!

Church Mouse

The Church Mouse program is a way to keep college students connected to Hope. Parents of college students sign up a child to receive mail from a Church Mouse. The Church Mouse, a Hope volunteer commits to corresponding to an assigned student on a regular basis during the school year. The Church Mouse might choose to send a card at the holidays, a care package at finals, etc., but does not reveal his or her identity to the student until the end of the school year. To sign up your college student or to become a Church Mouse, you can sign up here or contact Melodie Grinvalds at 224-6324 or grinco6@aol.com.

Hope Stampers
Hope Stampers now has a new look! We are no longer meeting at church so you are encouraged to use your artistic talents making cards at home to bring in for the prayer list. So call all your friends…it’s a great way to spend some time with friends, making cards for those in need of a little support from their church family! Some supplies can be picked up at church or provide your own. Completed cards can be dropped off at church in care of Michaelle Bown. Contact Michaelle Bown at 422-9169 or michaelle.bown@hopewdm.org with questions or for more information.

Sending Cards

Join other volunteers who are reaching out and extending a word of Hope and encouragement to individuals with various cares, concerns and illnesses. Help spread the love and hope of Jesus Christ and let others know that they are not all alone. Cards are sent weekly, but your commitment will be only for one month each year. This ministry can be done from the comfort of your home. Cards and postage are provided by Lutheran Church of Hope. Contact Lisa Davidson at care@hopewdm.org.
