HopeChild Sponsorship

Make a difference in a child's life with World Vision's HopeChild Sponsorship

What is HopeChild Sponsorship?
This is a program that links poor children in developing countries with individual donors in the United States and other developed nations. The sponsored child benefits through direct assistance, as well as improved living conditions in his/her community. Through regular reports and letters, the sponsor can see how his or her gift -- when combined with those of other generous sponsors -- is making a difference in the child's life and community.

What does it cost to sponsor a child?
For just $35 a month you can sponsor a HopeChild in African countries and other countries around the world devastated by HIV/AIDS. Your donation will help to provide things such as:
 Clean water
 Nutritious food
 Health care, including AIDS prevention
Care for sick or dying parents
 Educational opportunities
 Spiritual Nurture
 HIV/AIDS counseling

In addition, a sponsor's gift helps provide a Christian education program to give children the chance to learn about Jesus and his love.

How are children selected for HopeChild Sponsorships?
Children are selected to be a part of the sponsorship program based on their need. Generally they are the poorest of the poor in any particular community. Families are asked if they want to be part of the sponsorship program. They are informed that their children will not benefit exclusively, but that benefits will be shared by all the children and families in the community.

Where are the HopeChild children from?
Lutheran Church of Hope is excited to offer a limited number of HopeChild Sponsorships from our World Vision Partnership community of Umzimvubu, South Africa. Umzimvubu is located in the northeastern corner of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, approximately 12 miles from the border with Lesotho. The area is home to an estimated 12,900 South Africans -- representing 1,750 households, 509 orphans, 294 households caring for orphans or vulnerable children, and 170 child-headed households. Umzimvubu is in a remote area, making it hard for the economy to thrive since it is wholly based on agriculture and animal husbandry. However, most able-bodied men seek employment in mines and farms in other areas of South Africa. The practice of migrant labor has escalated the HIV prevalence rate, which in turn is causing the number of orphans and vulnerable children in the area to skyrocket. HopeChild Sponsorship children also come from other areas in Africa.

Why is Hope getting involved in HopeChild Sponsorships?
Our mission as a church is to "reach out to the world around us and share the everlasting love of Jesus Christ!" Our mission as followers of Christ is to be the face of Jesus to those who are sick, hungry, poor, or facing other desparate circumstances. Serving others is one of the greatest blessings God offers us. Hope believes this is an opportunity to support, educate and improve lives of children and the communities they live in... changing lives in a very direct way.

How do I participate in HopeChild Sponsorship?
During the World Vision Experience: AIDS, there will be a HopeChild Sponsorship table in the Marketplace area of the exhibit. HopeChild sponsorship packets will also be available after the exhibit ends.

There will also be an informational table for Umzimvubu at the World Vision Experience: AIDS exhibit. Please stop by to get more information.
